Senior Security Design Engineer

Our operations centre is focused around collaboration and success and you will be a part of a skilled operations team managing dynamic multi-tenanted and dedicated secure gateway environments. We are currently seeking a Senior Security Engineer. The role is within the Operations Design and Engineering group working with internal stakeholders, external parties and customers to realize the potential of the services we are engaged to provide.

You'll play a key role in helping to drive the direction for the business, service and product roadmaps, capacity and availability management of infrastructure and overall solution architecture for new designs and solutions across the Government SOC environments.

  • Assist with the overall technical platform’s architecture and design within the GSOC environment, ensuring compliance with ISM/PSPF and contractual requirements.
  • Assist with Engineering work needed to deliver Projects, including drafting Designs and Implementation Plans or executing Changes within the GSOC environment.
  • Help develop the Architecture, Program of Work, Product and Service Road-maps for the GSOC environment and ensure that they remain compliant and functionally appropriate.
  • As a part of the Product Lifecycle and selection process, perform detailed Product evaluations in conjunction with Vendors, Partners and staff to support new products/services and features.
  • Drive discussions with the customer through onsite technical workshop to showcase the value of the Verizon Gateway environment.
  • Support Operations and Engineering resources with technical advice and mentoring as required
  • Identify opportunities to automate and simplify the GSOC environment and work with appropriate stakeholders to have ideas implemented.
  • Understand the threat posture for managed gateway environments, and the needs of our customers related to ensuring the environment remains secure.

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.
  • Active security clearance - Minimum NV1 level security clearance.

Even better if you have:

  • Bachelor's degree, majoring in Computer Science, Electrical, Computer, Communications or System Engineering, or related fields. Ideally, your Master's degree.
  • Five or more years of hands on technical IT Security experience, with a strong emphasis on the operation of firewalls in a secure environment including hands on networking with a focus on data communications.
  • Two or more years of experience in the design and deployment of Internetworks, in both government and commercial environments.
  • Working knowledge with the following Vendors platforms Palo Alto, Juniper, CISCO, McAfee, Checkpoint, VMware, F5, Dell, EMC, Puppet and Nutanix.
  • Experience with the development of business cases to support the implementation of advanced IT solutions to meet customer requirements.
  • Deep technical expertise in networking, security, virtualization, cloud including relevant certifications (e.g. CCNA / SANS / VMware).
  • Strong knowledge of the Australian Government Information Security Manual, along with ISO 9001/27001 standards.
  • Previous work with the following technologies: AWS / AZURE, SMTP, HTTP/S, DNS, IPSEC/SSL VPN’s, IPv6, TCP/IP and associated monitoring tools.
  • Industry certifications.
