  • Position Summary:

    Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) is a pivotal technology which has enabled previously impossible or expensive tasks like routine whole genome or exome sequencing and facile clinical diagnosis. Illumina is the predominant provider of NGS instruments globally. This prominent position is an outcome of a rigorous focus on continuous development of our technology.

     

    We are now seeking a talented and driven Research Associate (Protein Engineering) to join our dynamic interdisciplinary protein engineering group that is responsible for the development of novel protein reagents for NGS. The successful candidate will execute and analyze research in the area of protein engineering applied to NGS, collaboratively working with multidisciplinary teams.This position will be based in Singapore.
     
    Tasks and Responsibilities:

    • Plan and execute various laboratory experiments to engineer novel enzymes for NGS, with defined goals and timeframes.
    • Characterize the performance of diverse enzymes involved in NGS.
    • Participate in multi-disciplinary protein engineering projects and interact with engineers, chemists, and protein scientists, to deliver protein variants with desired properties.

    Preferred Educational Background:

    • B.Sc./B.A. in molecular biology, enzymology, protein engineering, or related field.

     

    Preferred Experiential Background:

    • 1+ year of hands-on experience in expression, purification and biochemical characterization of nucleic acid modifying enzymes (e.g. DNA polymerases, DNA repair enzymes, etc).
    • Comfortable meeting deadlines in a fast paced biotech environment.
    • Sound understanding of the latest genomics technologies and methodologies.
    • Good communication skills.
