Job Description



Jacobs is hiring a Top Secret cleared Senior Database Administrator.  The person in this role will be responsible for: 

  • Lead project to develop and implement new data management schemas.
  • Perform a wide range of database administration functions; Implement and support databases on Linux/Unix platforms; Monitor databases, analyze and organize data and apply new technology designs and programs; Analyze database requirements.
  • Evaluate and provide recommendations on new database technologies and architectures.
  • Analyze and determine information needs and elements, database relationships and attributes, proposed manipulation, data flow and storage requirements, and data output and reporting capabilities.
  • Apply knowledge of database management systems to coordinate maintenance and changes to databases.
  • Test and implement changes and/or new database designs; execute test queries.
  • Write logical and physical database descriptions, including location, space, access method, and security requirements.
  • Provide direction to programmers and analysts as required to affect changes to database management systems.
  • Participate as an effective Scrum team member focusing on quality of product and supporting multiple custom enterprise applications delivered by multiple application development teams.
  • Attend daily Scrum meetings to discuss daily sprint activities and objectives.
  • Maintain separate database environments for development, quality assurance, training, and production workloads.
  • Perform daily system checks and review system logs to ensure optimal performance, execute scheduled reports and ensure automated reports executed successfully.
  • Test, tune, configure and maintain various Oracle, MarkLogic/NoSQL and SQL Server databases and coordinate with DEV to test new versions of customer custom applications and setup the operational databases.
  • Test and deploy new database and security patches; Harden databases to established STIG standards; Remediate identified POA&Ms associated with databases. 
  •  Perform database server configuration, installation and documentation for MarkLeogic/NoSQL, Oracle, and SQL Server databases.
  • Verify daily database backups completed successfully.
  • Provide disaster recovery for all production databases.
  • Enforce compliance with established database standards.
  • Provide database related performance reports.
  • Implement database changes from development to pre-production, training, and production environments, via the established change management processes.
  • Participate in deployments and database migration activities for customer custom software application upgrades.
  • Automate database tasks where applicable to maximize efficiency of database administration.
  • Maintain Oracle RAC.
  • Enforce compliance with established database standards.
  • Develop new database standards based on operational needs and industry best practices.
  • Provide database related performance reports.
  • Monitor and track current database growth across all enclaves and environments at least once a week.
  • Provide database troubleshooting support to developers, testers, and production personnel.




Qualifications include:

  • Must be able to demonstrate expertise in relational and NoSQL database management concepts and techniques.
  • Must be able to demonstrate expertise with Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
  • Must have Certified MarkLogic Administrator OR obtain certification within first three months of contract OR have equivalent NoSQL Certification(s). 


  • Master’s, Bachelor’s and/or Associate degrees are preferred.  Exceptions may be made as follows:  
    • Master’s degree with two years of relevant experience; OR
    • Bachelor’s degree with four years of relevant experience; OR
    • Associate’s degree with six years of relevant experience; OR Eight years of relevant experience, unless otherwise noted.


Essential Functions


Physical Requirements:

Requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk (90%). Requires sitting at a computer terminal for long periods of time (90%). There is a possibility that due to parking availability and location of work area walking moderate to long distances can sometimes be required.


Work Environment:

Inside office/cubicle environment. Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers and all levels of management (100%).


Equipment and Machines:

Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, copier, and other general office equipment (100%). Ability to conduct evaluation of third and fourth generation or current state of the art computer hardware and software and its ability to support specific requirements, interfacing with other equipment and systems.



Attendance is critical. Work hours are normally 8 hours per day and 5 days per week, Monday through Friday. Being prompt is important to provide continuous and on-going service to customers. Attendance is important to maintain continuity of service. Work outside of normal duty hours may be required with as little as one hour advance notice. Overtime is infrequent, but important when required (1%).

Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Must be able to interface with individuals at all levels of the organization. Must be able to obtain unescorted access to work areas. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
