Job Description

Our Opportunity:

Located in Dania Beach, FL, the State and Local Tax Manager will be reporting directly to the Tax Director and will be primarily responsible for state and local compliance, state portions of tax provisions, tax incentives, audits, research, and various other projects and related tasks. The goal of this position is to ensure that all state and local tax functions are completed in a timely manner and in accordance with established policies and procedures, as well as keeping the Associate Tax Director and Tax Director informed of activities and any significant challenges or issues.

What You'll Do:

  • Processing, analyzing, and reconciling the state income tax return filings and supporting workpapers. This includes gathering and analyzing financial information to effectively & efficiently generate tax returns, as well as maintaining supporting work papers and files while providing a clear audit trail to source/support documentation
  • Preparing and reviewing state tax returns, extensions and quarterly estimated tax payments at the corporate level and for related subsidiaries.
  • Maintaining tax calendar to ensure all tax returns and tax payments are filed timely
  • Performing reconciliations on tax general ledger accounts to verify account balances
  • Handling and resolving notices and assessments with taxing authorities and negotiating minimum payouts including preparation of responses, protests, and appeals
  • Assisting in preparation of annual tax provision calculation and ASC740 analysis
  • Managing state tax audit defense
  • Managing state and local tax incentive process including ensuring compliance is completed, working with other areas of the business to help maximize incentives, and communicating to management expected future incentives
  • Improving and coordinating processes related to state depreciation
  • Assisting in analysis of proposed transactions for the purpose of identifying state income tax consequences
  • Analyzing new tax laws, regulations, reporting requirements, and court cases, and implementing those that impact the tax compliance
  • Identifying and coordinating tax savings and planning opportunities in income and non-income tax areas (e.g. property)
  • Performing other tasks, duties and special projects as needed
  • Recommending process improvements

What You'll Need:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in income tax, at least 3 years being in state and local tax
  • Knowledge of tax related laws and regulations
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • Extensive knowledge of income tax compliance and state taxes (including real and tangible personal property)
  • Strong research, accounting ledger, and reconciliation skills
  • Superior organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
  • Experience managing state and local tax audits
  • Extensive knowledge and use of Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent analytical, written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills; solid team player
  • Detail oriented, strong time management and organizational/record-keeping skills
  • Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in performing all essential duties
  • Ability to multi-task, use independent judgment and sound decision-making skills, and work independently with minimal management oversight
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Knowledge of One Source Income Tax is a plus
  • Knowledge of international income tax is a plus
  • Position may require travel
