Jacobs is seeking a Software Quality Assurance Specialist/Application Tester with an active TS/SCI polygraph for a contingent position in the Reston, VA area.

As a Software Quality Assurance specialist/Application Tester, you will develop and implement quality control methodologies to ensure compliance with quality assurance standards, guidelines, and procedures in a large computer-based organization. Develop and execute software test plans in order to identify software problems and their causes. Establish and maintain a process for evaluating hardware, software, and associated documentation and/or assists in the evaluation. Conduct and/or participate in formal and informal reviews at pre-determined points throughout the development life cycle.

Duties include:

  • Conduct software compatibility tests with programs, hardware, operating systems, or network environments.
  • Document software defects, using a bug tracking system, and report defects to software developers
  • Install and configure recreations of software production environments to allow testing of software performance
  • Perform initial debugging procedures by reviewing configuration files, logs, or code pieces to determine breakdown source
  • Create scripts and convert manually intensive user interface testing scripts into automated tests using automated test tools, such as Selenium
  • Work with development project teams to assess their manual testing scenarios and scripts and identify those that are suitable candidates for automation
  • Develop, test, and document the scripts so that they can be used to regression test the applications
  • Provide knowledge transfer in test automation and the scripts to facilitate future maintenance by the project team
  • Plan test schedules or strategies in accordance with project scope or delivery dates
  • Test system modifications to prepare for implementation
  • Provide technical support during software installation or configuration
  • Review software documentation to ensure technical accuracy, compliance, or completeness, or to mitigate risks



  • Current and Active TS/SCI with Poly is required
  • Must be able to demonstrate working in an operational environment where priorities change frequently
  • Requires three (3) years of experience specific to skill
  • Education and relevant certifications may be substituted for years of experience. For example, candidates with an Associate’s degree equals 18 months of experience; Bachelor’s degree equals 3 years of experience; Master’s degree equals 5 years of experience; Doctorate equals 7 years of experience
  • Relevant certifications will be considered equivalent to three (months) of specialized experience

Desired Requirements:
• Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Electrical engineering, Computer Engineering, or other closely related IT or Cyber discipline
• Experience using Agile methodologies
• Software development experience programming web-based applications with technologies such as Java, JavaScript, CSS, XML, XSL, SQL, or HTTP/HTML
• Experience with Selenium 2.0 (Webdriver)
• Knowledge of Software development life cycle
• Experience testing IBM Maximo products

Most work will be done at a desk or computer.

Work Environment:
General Office environment. The work environment is fast-paced and sometimes involves extreme deadline pressures. The nature of the work requires a high degree of teamwork and cooperation with other members of the staff as well as individuals across the Company and Customers.

Equipment & Machines:
General office equipment including PC/laptop, Fax, Copiers, Shredder, Printers, Telephone, and other miscellaneous office equipment.

Attendance is critical at all times. Must be able to work a 40-hour workweek, normally Monday through Friday. However, times and days may vary depending on business requirements. Needs to be available to work overtime during critical peaks and be available to meet last minute requests for overtime should the situation occur.

Must take and pass a drug test and background check as well as a motor vehicle records check. Must be a US citizen.
