Team

Splunk Enterprise Security is the industry-leading SIEM solution built atop Splunk’s data platform. We help thousands of clients as they protect their assets from cyber threats, all over the world. On any given day, our software needs to handle thousands of users, petabytes of data, and unique usage patterns across different deployment topologies.

Role

As a senior member of the team with frontend focus, you will help define the future of our software by designing, creating, testing, and maintaining products that directly support security analysts all across the world. You will drive the frontend initiatives and information architecture to deliver the best user experience for our products. You will influence the direction of our technology as well as mentor other members of your team.

Working directly with customers is one of our core values. In this role, you'll be able to meet customers as they share their experiences, get a first-person view of the state of the art Security Operations Centers, and collaborate with product management to define and craft new products that streamline analysts' investigations.

Along the way, you will become proficient in Splunk's Search Processing Language (SPL) which will empower you to explore large data sets and to solve endless types of problems.

Responsibilities

  • Drive frontend initiatives to ensure the high-quality user experience
  • Collaborate with members of our team to design and create full-stack solutions including frontend and backend code
  • Take lead on projects with minimal direction from engineering/product leadership, drive and help track them to completion
  • Partner with other leaders from architecture, UX, eng management, and product management on requirements analysis and design
  • Break down product requirements and create a development plan with the rest of the development team
  • Achieve a deep knowledge of our product architecture, usage patterns, and real-world deployment scenarios
  • Improve the team's efficiency by introducing new tools and processes
  • Keep product quality top of mind with automated tests and continuous integration
  • Become well versed in Splunk's core technologies
  • Mentor junior engineers as they develop their application development skills

Requirements

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience focused on application development
  • Able to learn new technologies quickly
  • Proven experience in full-stack development
  • Proficiency with Python, Perl, Ruby, Java or similar languages
  • Familiar with backend application development frameworks such as Django or CherryPy
  • Strong frontend experience with Javascript, CSS, react, angular, backbone or other JS frameworks
  • Good design sense in user experience
  • Experience collaborating with UX and engineering teams to plan, develop and release software
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Comfortable developing software on Linux, Unix, and Windows systems
  • Familiarity with information security is a plus

Qualifications

  • Requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent practical experience or 6 years and a technical Master’s degree; or a Ph.D. with 3 years experience; or equivalent practical experience.
