Job Description

Join us as we pursue our disruptive new vision to make machine data accessible, usable, and valuable to everyone. We are a company filled with people who are passionate about our product and seek to deliver the best experience for our customers. At Splunk, we’re committed to our work, customers, having fun, and most importantly to each other’s success.

Splunk APM, originated from a combination of the SignalFx and Omnition acquisitions in 2019, is a new generation of application performance management solutions for microservices and distributed applications. As applications and systems become more complex and user experience is at high stake, observability - the ability to monitor and understand the systems and how they impact users, becomes one of the biggest challenges for engineering teams. We are building world-class tools to help engineers deliver better, faster, and more reliable applications.

We're looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to help lead a diverse team of engineers to build a new product as we continue to innovate on application observability. You will help the team win in a fast-growing market. We have ambitious goals to build best-of-its-kind products that solve customer’s problems.

As a manager at Splunk, your primary role is to help your team reach its maximum potential through mentorship and coaching. You will bring a ton of empathy while holding the line of high quality and helping people grow. You will collaborate closely with your peers across all engineering areas as well as product management, program management, UX, and documentation cross-functional teams to help your team deliver success to our customers. We want you to enable every team member to do the best work of their lives.

Responsibilities

  • You will cultivate an atmosphere of continuous improvement by serving as a coach, mentor, and technical advisor.
  • You will diagnose and resolve systemic obstacles that prevent your team from delivering high-quality software.
  • You will facilitate technical discussions and help your team make smart technical decisions that balance both short-term and long-term goals.
  • You will foster the mindset of strong ownership and empower people to take initiatives and continuously improve.
  • You will be responsible for the execution and delivery of your team.
  • You will work with product management team members to help resolve priorities and the roadmap for your team.
  • You will plan and support career development.
  • You will recruit and retain great talents for your team.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience leading engineering teams focused on large scale SaaS systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with DevOps practices and leading teams to build and operate their own services.
  • Passionate about good engineering practices, new technologies, and improving processes, and a consistent record of mentoring and coaching team members.
  • Passionate about building elegant and powerful tools to solve customer problems.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • 10+ years of Software Engineering experience and recent 4+ years of experience managing engineering teams.

We value diversity at our company. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, or any other applicable legally protected characteristics in the location in which the candidate is applying.

For job positions in San Francisco, CA, and other locations where required, we will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records.
