Jacobs Space Exploration Group (JSEG) is comprised of 10 companies and is located at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, AL (ranked #11 in Best Places to Live by U.S. News). Position Description:
Provide engineering support in the development, integration, test, and analysis of a simulated vehicle. The task will involve developing and integrating system models (such as Booster, Liquid Engine, Main Propulsion System, Thrust Vector Control, Avionics, and\or Guidance, Navigation and Control) to test the vehicle’s Mission and Fault Management algorithms. This will include developing C/C++ code to implement the algorithms, or integrating algorithm code from other development sources. 

The selected candidate will also develop test procedures to perform nominal and off-nominal system test cases to verify the algorithm operation for pre-flight and in-flight scenarios. This will require interfacing with the Integrated Design Teams, vehicle elements, and other organizations to ensure the simulations adequately represent the vehicle performance/operation. 

The selected candidate will participate in recurring vehicle, discipline and sub-system meetings to gather technical data, distribute analysis results, work technical issues and collaborate with stakeholder organizations. They will also participate in discipline, project and program level reviews as necessary, to include but not limited to presenting results, issues, reviewing documents and working issues as they arise.





  •  A degree in aerospace, electrical, mechanical, computer engineering or related field is required.  Degree from an ABET accredited university preferred.  Typically, educational requirement is a BS.
  • Experience working as an intern, or working on a college project team using systems engineering, project management processes, and\or launch vehicle subsystem operations is required.
  • Excellent technical writing and communications skills are required. Must be able to effectively communicate technical information via written reports and PowerPoint presentations.
  • Candidate is expected to be a self-motivated, team player familiar with working in a dynamic work environment. Strong interpersonal skills to work with personnel from various disciplines.
  • Exposure to MatLab\Simulink modelling tools and simulations is highly desired. Able to read and understand UML diagrams of detailed software designs is also desired.
  • Proficient in tools/languages such as: C, C++, XML, SVN, Python and familiarity working in a Linux environment and batch scripting would be a plus.
  • Perform software integration and unit test activities and related data analysis.
  • Conduct and participate in design and code reviews.
  • Produce weekly and monthly status reports of progress in assigned areas

Essential Functions

Work Environment: 

Office environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (<5%).


Physical Requirements: 

Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (20%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (60%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and Jacobs facilities (20%).


Telework Requirements:

Require the ability to have sufficient home internet for extended periods in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues.  Sitting for extended periods at a desk to draft test plans, analyze data, write reports and perform various engineering tasks at a safe personal location.

Equipment and Machines: 

Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).


Normal workday is from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.


Other Essential Functions: 

The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
