Our team is experiencing exciting growth within our established practice and we have a need for Senior CEI Inspectors to join our teams in Tampa, FL. This person will inspect construction methods and workmanship to ensure that contractors build roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications. Perform work related to transportation engineering activities such as laboratory tests, design data collection, construction record-keeping and traffic control inspection. Employee at this level performs work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

 

  • Observe and inspect ongoing construction work.
  • Review plans and specifications to ensure that work is in compliance with plans and specifications.
  • The senior inspector will serve the supervisory role and supervise the day to day activities of the inspection staff as well as doing his own inspection tasks. 
  • Daily the senior inspector will review reports from inspection staff and will write a summary report of all construction activities.
  • Complete pay sheets for actual work completed.
  • Conducts laboratory sampling.
  • Inspect barricades and report deficiencies on inspection checklist to ensure compliance with barricade standards.
  • Maintain a daily activity of work in progress and status of completion and discusses construction related problems with supervisor.
  • Records and reports observations including video and digital pictures.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications
 
  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience is required
  • At least 5 years of experience in construction inspection for transportation projects is required.
  • Previous experience as a senior inspector is preferred 
  • Required to have and maintain a satisfactory driving record
  • Ability to move up to 50 pounds is required
  • Ability to effectively follow instructions; deal effectively with contractors and public.
  • Ability to read and interpret roadway, structure, and bridge plans and specifications.
  • Some knowledge of construction including material, methods, plans and specifications; associated safety requirements
  • Must have the ability to complete advanced level inspector qualification courses needed including FDOT CTQP classes for Earthwork, Asphalt, Concrete, Advanced MOT, Pile Driving, Drill Shafts, Roadway Lighting, and Traffic Signalization 
  • Perform calculations using algebra, trigonometry and geometry
  • Able and willing to work day or night shifts and/or flexible schedules including weekends as required to support the project requirements
  • Work under exposure to inclement weather conditions
  • Personal computers and applicable programs
  • Promotes and maintains a safe working environment
  • Candidates that are selected will have to pass a mandatory drug screen and the FL Motor Vehicle record will be examined

 

Essential Functions: Intermittent sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, and lifting. Lifting requirements limited to 20 lbs. in the form of supplies, drawings, etc. Longest distance carried of 50 feet. Hand manipulation is required for simple grasping, pushing and pulling, and fine manipulation. Right and/or left hands utilized. Occasional need to reach and/or work above the shoulder, for supplies, as well as below the shoulder for same. No foot controls necessary. Must be alert to equipment in the field, there will be occasional travel, will work near construction job site equipment when in the field, occasional need to work near hazardous equipment and machinery, occasional need to walk on uneven ground, exposure to dust, gas or fumes, exposure to noise, extremes in temperature or humidity, and potential work at heights.
