Jacobs Space Exploration Group (JSEG) is comprised of 10 companies and is located at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, AL (ranked #11 in Best Places to Live by U.S. News). An Additive Manufacturing Technician will:

• Develop a basic metallurgical understanding of metals processed by casting, forging, welding, selective laser melting, directed energy deposition, and hot isostatic pressing for the determination of comparative relationships.
• Perform, document and report microstructural analysis of manufactured aerospace hardware and witness test coupons.
• Logistics support for HIP: Package, ship, and track hardware for the HIP process.
• Maintain Build Schedule and build approval process
• Hardware expediting: Move hardware from AM lab, to the shop, to thermal processing, then to the rack for customer pick up. Hardware includes both the parts and associated witness samples. This also includes tracking completing shop work orders.
• Hardware tracking: An important part of expediting will be part and witness specimen tracking through processing. We need to know where parts are sitting and why so this person can improve our current process.
• Powder inventory: Maintain inventory of powder quantity and location.
• Assist with Procurements, chart package generation, and meeting support.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Typically, educational requirement is a High School diploma or GED or equivalent; and at least 6 years of experience and continuing education, or an Associate's Degree or equivalent and at least 2 years of experience.

Required Skills:

• The ability to be "hands-on" and to communicate and work well with others.
• Understanding of design-for-additive considerations/challenges and be able to communicate those to product designers.

Desired Skills:

• Experience in either metallic or nonmetallic additive manufacturing (AM).
• Ability to use and understand CAD modeling software (preferably ProEngineer) and its application to AM.
• Understanding of in-situ monitoring processes.

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Office and shop environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). May require limited travel.

Physical Requirements

Requires lifting of sometimes heavy (up to 40 pounds per person) computer systems and associated hardware when building up or maintaining systems (10%). Requires climbing a ladder or operating a vertical lift (up to 15 feet) to work on the avionics lab structure (25%). Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (20%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and Jacobs facilities (10%).

Equipment and Machines

Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).

Attendance

Normal workday is from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.

Other Essential Functions

The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
