The 53rd Wing is the focal point for the combat air forces in electronic warfare and is responsible for operational test and evaluation (OT&E) of advanced equipment and systems.

 

Come join our team at Nellis AFB, NV. Nellis Air Force Base covers more than 14,000 acres and the total land area occupied by Nellis and its restricted ranges is about 5,000 square miles. An additional 7,700 miles of airspace north and east of the restricted ranges are also available for military flight operations. Nellis supports advanced combat aviation training and testing. Its mission is accomplished through an array of aircraft, including fighters, bombers, refuelers, and aircraft used for transport, close-air-support, command-and-control and combat search-and-rescue. We are seeking a qualified technical project lead (TPL) to provide information technology (IT)-related project leadership / management in a diverse US Air Force (USAF) special enclave network supporting the 53rd Wing Detachment 1 at Nellis AFB, NV. This position provides project guidance / advice and technical support to support classified networks and associated operations personnel. In this role, the employee must be able to:

  • Perform strategic planning and analysis for long-range computer network architecture.
  • Gather and understand requirements
  • Write statements of work (SOWs) / statements of objectives (SOOs)
  • Coordinate with local organizations as well as MAJCOM / Air Staff and other DoD agency personnel on accomplishment of projects or project objectives
  • Interface with technical / engineering customers
  • Provide weekly status reports and briefings, as required
  • Manage diverse groups across multiple IT support disciplines

 

Qualifications

 

Required Experience:

  • Must have, and be able to maintain, a TS/SCI with DCID 6/4 eligibility with an investigation close date no older than 5 years, 6 months at the time of application (and 5 years, 9 months at time of hire).
  • Must be willing to submit to, and be able to pass, a CI polygraph. 
  • Must have current, and be able to maintain currency of, DoD 8570.01-M IAT-II certification.
  • A minimum of three (3) years direct project planning / management experience
  • Understanding of the Government organizational hierarchy
  • Knowledge of Air Force computer, personnel security, and facility directives (specifically JSIG and DCID documents). 
  • Familiarity with accepted program/project management practices, the Air Force budget process, and JSIG/DCID security requirements is essential. 
  • Familiarity with computer operating systems (Windows 7/10) and computer network principles such as DNS, WINCS, Active Directory, and computer applications such as Exchange, and Microsoft Office Suite of products. 

Desired Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in special enclave project management is highly desired.
  • Electronic Warfare mission data development familiarity is desired. 
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP, networking, troubleshooting, and USAF IT security is desired.
  • Program Manager course (or equivalent experience) is highly desired. 
  • Formal training covering JSIG/DCID security principals is desired.

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Office setting that includes sedentary physical effort. However, may include lifting of weight up to thirty (30) pounds as necessary. Must be able to work well with co-workers and all levels of management. No hazards on job or unusual

environmental conditions. Periodic/occasional travel may be required to include both continental US and/or overseas locations.

 

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time.  Position may require typing, and reading from a computer screen.  Must have sufficient mobility, including but not limited to bending, reaching, and kneeling to complete daily duties in a timely and efficient manner.  There is a possibility that due to parking availability and location of work, walking moderate to long distance may be required.

 

Equipment and Machines

Ability to operate office equipment such as personal computer, printer, copy machine, telephone, fax machine and other equipment including desk supplies and other work related tools as required. 

 

Attendance

Monday-Friday 7:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.  Regular attendance of scheduled hours is extremely important, but not critical, except for deadlines and meetings.  Punctuality and regular attendance are necessary to meet deadlines.  Must exhibit flexibility of work hours to adjust to surge situations based on critical mission requirements. Position may be assigned to Shift 1 or Shift 2. Notional Shift hours, inclusive of at least one 1/2 hour break, are generally 0600-1430, Mon -Fri for Shift 1 and 1300-2230, Mon-Thu for Shift 2.

 

Other Essential Functions

Must demonstrate professional behavior at all times when dealing with customers, management and co-workers.  Must have clear, concise and accurate communications skills in English, both verbal and written.  Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk to employees or others.  Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a professional manner.  Independent personal transportation to work site is required.  Travel to and from customer's locations may be required to support projects.  This may involve airline travel.  In some cases, accommodations can possibly be made for POV, if necessary.  When operating any vehicle for work purposes, must wear seat belt and in addition, no cellular devices are to be used when vehicle is in motion.
