Job Description: Works independently or in small groups and assists less qualified personnel to effectively perform a variety of tasks supporting testing of military equipment and maintenance of ranges, buildings, and equipment. Tasks are assigned by area supervisor or manager. Requires the operation of hand and power tools and grass maintenance tools to include weed-eaters, blowers, and zero-turn mowers; and the operation of Government-owned vehicles and material-handling equipment. Independently performs (or assists higher-level test support personnel with) test setup; moves items and vehicles to and from ranges and test courses, installs payloads; digs trenches for instrumentation cables; operates general support equipment such as power generators, forklifts, etc.; and performs cleanup after testing. Works with less skilled employees on the proper use of large range maintenance equipment to include farm tractors with attachments, material-handling equipment, and small construction equipment to include skid-loaders and mini-excavators, straw blower, hydro seeder, and batwing mowers up to 20 feet wide. Works with appropriately trained/licensed personnel for range maintenance projects to include mowing of impact ranges where exposure to unexploded ordnance (UXO) is a risk. Provides movement of ammunition for transport, storage, and testing. Transports arms to include small arms and mortars to various ranges. Performs heavy physical tasks to support installation of Erosion and Sediment controls to include movement of heavy or bulky items, test target construction and placement, preparation of large clay blocks, filling of sandbags for test payloads, material handling to include soils and sand, and general policing and garbage removal operations. Performs Test Center maintenance to include grass mowing, leaf cleanup, and snow/ice removal. Actively participates in programs to ensure personal, team, visitor, and end-user safety in accordance with policy, Standing Operating Procedures (SOPs), and locally identified hazard mitigation requirements. #cjpost
Qualifications
Qualifications: 2 yr. of applicable experience. Must possess basic computer skills. Fifty percent must possess an Ammunition Certification Level I. Twenty-five percent must possess a valid Class A CDL.
Essential Functions Form: UNUSUAL OR SPECIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION Work includes performing heavy physical tasks including general policing up and garbage removal operations, moving furniture, assisting in demonstrations, landscaping, ice and snow removal, and clean- up of warehouses. Supports the Environmental Dept. by installing Sediment and Erosion controls on ranges. Performs a variety of manual and mechanical functions in connection with testing of weapons, military vehicles, and materiel. The ability to squat, crawl, kneel and climb into or under a vehicle is required (up to 50%). The ability to bend, stoop, and crouch is required (up to 50%). Walking a minimum of 50 yards over rough terrain is required (up to 25%). The ability to reach above shoulder level, push and pull, as well as lift and carry up to 50 pounds is required (up to 75%). DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT Work is outside regardless of weather conditions. The ability to work in outside field conditions that include hot and cold extreme temperatures, and other outdoor climatic conditions (up to 75%). Must be able to work in areas where only portable restroom facilities are available (up to 25%). Work environment may be fast-paced and require work under pressure to meet deadlines associated with the completion of a task. Position will require multiple task efforts. EQUIPMENT AND MACHINES INVOLVED IN WORK TASKS Work involves the use of hand tools and simple power equipment. Digging trenches by hand and with small powered trenchers. Cutting grass with trimmers, zero-turn mowers, medium size farm tractors with bat-wing mowers to 20’. Moving furniture and office equipment, ice and snow removal using shovels, blowers, and small tractors with blades. Applies de-icing agents by hand and with spreaders. Assist with the testing of weapons, ammunition, weapons related equipment, armor, and simulation testing including construction of targets; setting up targets; instrumentation; loading and unloading weapons, ammunition, and equipment onto vehicles. May operate military vehicles and equipment. May operate construction equipment and small machinery in the support of military equipment testing and facility upgrades; The requirements include the ability to work on unprotected heights, be around moving machinery/equipment, and drive auto test equipment and pickup trucks pulling small equipment trailers. Drives forklifts and other equipment as needed. Must have basic computer skills required to support the tests and time card entries. CRITICALITY OF ATTENDANCE Attendance is critical at all times during normal duty hours. Work outside of normal duty hours, including weekends and holidays, may be required with as little as one-hour advance notice. OTHER ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Must be able to communicate effectively. Must be able to obtain an interim secret security clearance in order to gain access to required areas, networks and systems within thirty (30) days of date of your offer letter. Must further be able to obtain and retain a secret security clearance. Must be able to provide proof of U.S. citizenship. Must be able to obtain and retain unescorted access to work areas. Must possess an Ammunition Certification Level I in accordance with ATC regulation 350-8 within 1 year of employment. May be subject to other physicals or exams if required to wear a respirator or are designated by the COR to have other physicals due to the work area in which you are assigned. May be subject to exposure to noise, radiation, vibration, lead, dust, solvents and fuels such as diesel, gasoline, and JP8 (jet fuel). Must be able to wear personal protective equipment as required. Must have a valid driver’s license and personal transportation for the purpose of moving around the proving ground to accomplish job functions and in order to operate a rental vehicle if and when travel is required.
