Job Description: May perform a variety of duties with limited supervision concerned with the operations, maintenance, repair, overhaul and modification on a wide variety of complex industrial equipment. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: operates environmental test chambers (fixed and portable temperature boxes that use multiple types of refrigerants, and environmental simulating agents (sand, salt fog, etc.)); loading and unloading of temperature chambers and boxes; performing inspections on live munitions before, in some cases during, and after testing of munitions of many variations; transporting test items from one testing area to another; monitoring/ controlling operation of portable conditioning chambers located throughout Aberdeen and Edgewood areas of APG utilizing the LAN central console; performing control setups, instrumentation monitoring and general instrument operations; filling test chambers with various consumables; setting up data acquisition systems to record/retrieve/report data; performing operations, preventive maintenance, repairs and visual inspections on all equipment associated with chambers and portable boxes; operates chamber refrigeration equipment from a personal computer (PC) -based workstation; accesses plant wide information, initiates set points and operational changes through communications with the microprocessor panels; monitors alarms and responds promptly with the necessary repairs; coordinates with range control personnel while following range safety regulations, principles, practices and requirements; works with Engineers/testing personnel to meet test requirements; and wears appropriate PPE when required. #cjpost
Qualifications
Qualifications: Meets the qualifications of an Engineering Technician I (SET), plus 2 yr. additional general experience in Engineering Technician I work that developed skills in making measurements using test instruments and computing and that provided knowledge of some of the pertinent principles, methods, and techniques of engineering. Must possess a clearance for unaccompanied access to AA&E. Must obtain an ammunition certification Level I in accordance with ATEC Regulation 385-1. Must possess Class A CDL with HAZMAT endorsement as required for task assignments. Must possess Forklift License.
Essential Functions Form UNUSUAL OR SPECIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION May require sitting in front of a computer for extended periods of time (up to 30%). Performs duties relative to receiving, labeling, marking, handling, storing, packaging, and disposing of hazardous property. Use of highly toxic and hazardous material, much of which is environmentally controversial, is extensive throughout the test center. The ability to stoop, crawl, crouch, kneel, and climb into or under a vehicle is required (up to 30%). Walking a minimum of 50 yards over rough terrain is required (up to 30%). The ability to push and pull and reach above shoulder level is required (up to 50%). The ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds is required (up to 30%). DESCRIPTION OF WORK ENVIRONMENT Work environment may be in a field setting or in a laboratory setting. If working in certain specialized areas, tests may be conducted on a random basis. The ability to work in outside field conditions that include hot and cold extreme temperatures, and other outdoor climatic conditions (up to 25%). Must be able to work in areas where only portable restroom facilities are available (up to 25%). Work environment may be fast-paced and require work under pressure to meet deadlines associated with the completion of a task. Position will require multiple task efforts. Required to work with highly toxic and hazardous material. EQUIPMENT AND MACHINES INVOLVED IN WORK TASKS Work also requires regular use of typical office equipment such as the personal computer (up to 30%), copiers (up to 5%), and fax machines (up to 5%). Plans and collects samples, takes samples, and accumulates information and material required for laboratory analysis (up to 50%). Assists in performing duties relative to receiving, labeling, marking, handling, storing, packaging, and disposing of hazardous property. May be required to drive auto equipment, forklifts, and other equipment. Work may require being around moving equipment and machinery. Must obtain Ammo Certification 385-1 within 6 months of employment. Must possess Class A CDL with hazardous material endorsement as required for task assignments. CRITICALITY OF ATTENDANCE Attendance is critical at all times during normal duty hours. Work outside of normal duty hours, including weekends and holidays, may be required with as little as one-hour advance notice. OTHER ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Must be able to communicate effectively. Must be able to obtain an interim secret security clearance in order to gain access to required areas, networks and systems within thirty (30) days of date of your offer letter. Must further be able to obtain and retain a secret security clearance. Must be able to provide proof of U.S. citizenship. Must be able to obtain and retain unescorted access to work areas. May be subject to a hearing test, laser eye exam, and complete blood count. If working with depleted uranium, an Urinebioassay and lnvivo lung scan may also be required. May be subject to other physicals or exams if required to wear a respirator or are designated by the COR to have other physicals due to the work area in which you are assigned. May be subject to exposure to noise, vibration, lead, dust, and fuels such as gasoline/diesel, cleaners, and solvents (aromatic/petroleum based.) Must be able to wear personal protective equipment as required. Must have a valid driver's license and personal transportation for the purpose of moving around on the proving ground to accomplish job functions and in order to operate a rental vehicle if and when travel is required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a military driver's license within 30 days of employment.
