Responsibilities

An exciting opportunity for a talented structural engineer to provide  operations and maintenance support at NASA Langley Research Center.  The successful candidate must have the ability to work as part of multi-discipline project teams and interact with clients in a fast-paced team oriented environment.

  • Independently perform structural and civil engineering assignments
  • Experience with creating design packages
  • Prepare studies, reports, design reviews, design specifications and construction cost estimates
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of the latest ACI, AISC, AWS and ASCE codes
  • Perform engineering analysis of structural systems and components constructed of steel, concrete, masonry and aluminum elements
  • Experience performing Finite Element Analysis
  • Experience with operating Autodesk AutoCAD
  • Experience using Revit Building Information Modeling (BIM) software and BIM project execution is desirable
  • Must be able to effectively communicate both orally and written

 

Qualifications

 

U.S. Citizenship required. BS degree in engineering from an ABET accredited university or college and three (3) to five (5) years related engineering experience, or MS degree and two (2) to three (3) years of related engineering experience, or Ph.D.  Professional Engineer (PE) License is preferred. Successful candidate without PE must obtain it within 2 years. 

 

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Office environment (80%)
Test Environment- May be exposed to areas of high noise levels, hazardous propellants, explosives, chemicals, steam, high pressure lines, and industrial facilities.
Travel between facilities and test sites is required. (20%)

Physical Requirements
Must have sufficient mobility to enter all areas of test facilities. Must be able to walk, stand, bend, twist and sit for extended periods as well as climb, crawl in confined spaces, and lift up to 35lbs.

Equipment and Machines
Standard office equipment ( (10%)

Experience with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook. (30%)

Experience with Revit, AutoCad, FEA (30%)
Safety and Personal Protective Equipment (20%)
Attendance
Regular attendance mandatory (100%)
Overtime/work outside normal schedule required (20%)

U.S. Citizenship required. Must be able to work in a team atmosphere. Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety/risk hazard to the employee or others. The work environment requires the ability to cooperate and work with individuals at all levels of the company and the client. Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance as required. Safe Plan of Action (SPA) is a Company provided tool to be used for the prevention of incidents, accidents, and injuries; as such, it is the most important tool that you are required to use.  A valid driver’s license is required.
