Job Description

This role in Illumina’s Research group will focus on data analysis, test, characterization, and development of CMOS image sensor for on-chip DNA sequencing application. As a key member of R&D team, you will be responsible for sensors evaluation, collecting and comparing DNA sequencing across multiple designs of experiments, development of new applications, general problem solving, and applying new features. In this role, you will be at the center of development effort, and you will work closely with cross functional teams in many aspects of daily activities.


Responsibilities can be a selection of following activities depending on the core strength of the candidate:

  • Evaluating advanced pixel technology from image sensor vendors
  • Characterizing the performance of the image sensor, and building required lab set ups when needed
  • Working with internal and external teams to assure that enough and correct testing is implemented at all stages
  • Collecting sequencing data and comparing metrics across multiple design of experiments
  • Documenting and presenting your results to both internal and external engineering teams
  • Collaborating cross functionally to develop next generation products and features
  • Statistical analysis of wafer-level and bench level characterizations of image sensors
  • Debugging characterization tools and update or improve data collection setups and procedures.

  • You will have 3+ years of relevant experience in (optical) sensor product engineering, sensor characterization, sensor bring up and debug
  • Familiar with image sensor technology, image sensor performance metrics, image sensor usage, and integration
  • You will also be aware of general industry trends and technical challenges
  • Hands-on experience with silicon bring-up, sensor characterization, and issue debugging. Ability to innovate and build new and unique solutions
  • Proficiency with data analysis and statistical tools (JMP, MATLAB, Excel, etc.)
  • Strong programming skills in Python or MATLAB
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and solid teamwork and leadership skills
