Jacobs Space Exploration Group (JSEG) is comprised of 10 companies and is located at Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, AL (ranked #11 in Best Places to Live by U.S. News). Position Description:

The successful candidate will support the SLS Level III Avionics Project in the area of avionics systems (integrated hardware and software) engineering and systems management and provide direct support to the ES Avionics Element Discipline Lead Engineer.  


The successful candidate shall be responsible for assisting in program coordination within the Space Systems Department and ES12 Avionics systems Integration Branch. 


Duties may include, but not be limited to, the following: coordinating scheduling, coordinating meetings, tracking action items, assisting in planning activities, supporting trade studies, performing systems analyses, supporting integrated avionics hardware/software design solutions and test, making technical risk management inputs, coordinating technical performance measures, supporting reviews, working groups and boards and providing periodic status inputs to the SLS Project and ES management.
 

 
Qualifications
 

Qualifications:

A degree in Systems Engineering or a related field is required.  Degree from an ABET accredited institution preferred.  Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a PhD with at least 19 years of experience, an MS with at least 23 years of experience, or a BS with at least 25 years of experience. 

 

 

 

Skills Required:

  • Broad background in systems engineering, avionics, software, project management, ability to converse with multiple subject matter experts at all technical and management levels.

  • A minimum of twenty-five (25) years of hands on experience of hardware and software design, testing, integrating, qualifying, and delivery.

  • Familiarity with development and manufacturing protocols such as Non-conformances, waivers, deviations, engineering changes, and problem reporting.

  • Proven communications skills such as technical presentations refereed journal publications and/or conference presentations.

  • Proven ability to socialize recommendations achieving group consensus

 

Must have:

  • This individual must be able to read and understand technical manuals and instructions written and spoken in English and be able to clearly convey complex technical information to mid and senior level technical and program management, engineering and technical personnel.

  • This individual should have at least a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering or equivalent.

  • Experience with SLS Core Stage avionics design, integration and test.

Desired:

  • Experience working across multiple NASA Centers and contactors is a plus.

Expectations:

 

This individual:

  • Must be able to work in a team environment involving multiple contractor and NASA organizations.

  • Must have the ability to comprehend and execute technical instructions provided by the NASA and Contactor’s Task and Team Leads.

  • Will attend technical meetings, Team meetings and NASA ES12 Branch Meetings as required.

  • Adhere to the Jacobs/ESSCA BelowZero safety policy.

Essential Functions

 

Work Environment:

Office environment and laboratory environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). 

 

Physical Requirements:

Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (80%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and Jacobs facilities (10%).

 

Equipment and Machines:

Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).

 

Attendance:

Normal workday is from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Overtime may be required (15%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.

 

Travel:

Must be able to travel.  Travel is expected to be 20% of the employee’s time supporting device and systems testing across the CONUS.

 

Other Essential Functions:

The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
