JOB DESCRIPTION: The Pilot Training Next (PTN) contract is seeking a Data Visualization Specialist to support the data analysis and reporting capability for the Air Education and Training Command within the United States Air Force. The team is seeking a motivated individual with a background in data visualization and analysis. We are a team of “doers” with a bias towards action and have a proven track record of implementing innovative technology solutions to solve complex challenges. The position requires creating and maintaining custom on-line web resources using Tableau, Alteryx, and Microsoft SQL Server, which will enable leadership to visualize data related to student pilot progression. We’re breaking the stereotype of clunky government applications by using modern design and project management tools, such rapid prototyping and agile development methodologies, to build and customize solutions that are easy to use and effective at meeting their business objectives.

 

Responsibilities

  • Summary: Responsible for collecting, interpreting, analyzing, and presenting and/or reporting on results, with a focus on presenting this information in Tableau. Develop and implement data collection systems, organize data to efficiently normalize and attain accurate results. Turn data into information, and information into shareable knowledge and business insight via a visually positive user experience. Design and build presentations, reports, dashboards, and other visual representations of the data for senior officers, stakeholders, instructors, and the general user community, with a main focus on using Tableau as the platform. 
  • Duties: Work directly with instructors and leadership to provide identification, collection, definition, reporting, and dashboard capabilities from data gathered across multiple systems. Support the compilation, analysis and submission of customer requested student pilot reporting. Able to facilitate requirements, design, test, change request and implementation activities related to the maintenance and improvement of visualizations. Monitor student performance, interpret trends and pattern in complex data sets, and identify improvement opportunities.

Qualifications

TYPICAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelors and five (5) years or more related experience; Masters and three (3) years or more experience

 

  • Experience using data visualization software (e.g. Tableau). Additional experience using other visualization software (Looker, Microsoft Power BI, Amazon QuickSight, etc.) is preferred.
  • Experience working in cloud environments (AWS, Google, Microsoft Azure, or similar software).
  • Tableau Desktop Specialist certification, with the ability to obtain Tableau Desktop Certified Associate certification. Additional certifications (Google, AWS, etc.) a plus.
  •  
  • Develops complex and customized reports, both on a proactive basis to address client needs as well as in response to user requests.
  • Works in conjunction with project design team on new and innovative reporting solutions and, as requested, perform business analysis and troubleshooting tasks.
  • Respond quickly to questions/challenges to visualization results.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to adapt in an environment with customer-directed changes
  • Develops and maintains reports created in data visualization software (Tableau, Power BI, or similar software).

  • Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing datasets.
  • Adept at queries, report writing and presenting findings.

Target salary range: $75,001 - $100,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
