SAIC is seeking a motivated, career and customer-oriented Nuclear Engineer Principal who specializes in nuclear weapons effects to join our team at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, providing unparalleled support to our customer and in an exciting and rewarding career.  This position provides Advisory and Assistance Services (A&AS) to the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), Nuclear Technologies Department, developing state-of-the-art nuclear weapons effects applications that enable effective targeting of U.S. nuclear weapons, and inform protection and response against adversary nuclear attacks. 

The successful candidate will support our customer’s efforts to integrate, demonstrate, and deliver a suite of consistent & enhanced models, tools, references, and data to U.S. and Allied nuclear weapon effects stakeholders.  Researches new requirements, conducts market research, and translates best technology areas and concepts to deliver cloud-ready nuclear weapon effects computer models to support warfighter nuclear battlefield modeling and simulation capabilities for wargaming, exercises, planning and operations.  Interacts frequently across DoD, and with other Federal Agencies, and National Laboratories working to synchronize nuclear weapon effects research and analysis capabilities to predict the consequences of nuclear detonations.  Provides advice and facilitates government acquisition actions, including statement of work development, proposal evaluation, budget planning and execution, and monitoring contractor performance. 

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelors and nine (9) years of related expereince; Master of Science plus 7 years of relevant or Doctorate plus 4 years of experience in Nuclear Engineering, Physics, or other relevant scientific/engineering field.  
  • Strong technical project management background.  Level II or III Program Management Certification and/or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is desired.  
  • Ability to translate requirements and observations into clearly defined written products (briefings, reports, White Papers) in short timeframes.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.  
  • Skilled in using personal computer and standard office automation systems (e.g., Microsoft Office, M/S Project). 
  • Travel is required (10% to 25%). 

Clearance:

  • DoD Secret clearance is required.  Must have or be able to obtain TS/SCI.
